Dave wallacE
- The Artist -
Dave lives in Christchurch and enjoys the city's sub-cultures and creativity. The British-born Kiwi has put his professional career on pause to focus on producing his music, which is drawn from his life experience.
From a young age Dave was introduced to some of the best sounds from Pink Floyd, Ultravox and Depeche Mode,
"I remember Dad bringing home The Wall and just listening to it over and over again, then my brother taking me to see Ultravox in concert, I was so small I could hardly see over the people in front of me but the sound and thrill of the night sparked my passion for music."
But, he says, Thomas Dolby, The Blue Nile and David Sylvian are the significant early influences coming through on EON - "especially with the song Feel, which we've treated with Blue Nile piano and melody and Sylvian string and vocal arrangements; and the general midi arrangements are all based on Dolby's approach to laying digital tracks."
What followed was heavy rock, Faith No More mostly, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Queens of the Stone Age.
Radiohead, Coldplay, Muse and Rammstein became significant influences in their respective genres, with, perhaps indirect, roots back through the musical family tree to Dave's early influences.
When he's not writing music for himself, he writes incidental music and rock songs for a New Zealand-produced PS3 game. He has also formed a mobile game development company with a couple of friends. Dave says, "Good things happen when you follow your passion"
EON will be released later this year.
